Girl Power
Girl Power is a programme for female entrepreneurs run by the local council of Talavera de la Reina in Castilla La Mancha.
The programme is aimed at fostering the entrepreneurial spirit among the women in Talavera by taking advantage of the vast business potential present in information and communication technologies (ICT) so that they can achieve a lasting economic and social independence.
Girl Power provides support to entrepreneurial women in the area who wish to include a technological element like an app, website or internet connected hardware into a new or existing business.
Programme details
Girl Power will run from May to September 2015.
During these five months, the participants will benefit from training in the following areas:
Participants will gain support, advice and insights along through a mentoring programme with local business people.
Training in how to network and the opportunities to practice will seek to embed the new and existing entrepreneurs in the fabric of local businesses for future growth and opportunities.
A peer support network will be encouraged amongst all the participants for support as the women develop their ideas into reality long beyond the programme’s end.

IPETA is an independent body of the Ayuntamiento de Talavera charged with the economic and social development of the city region in Talavera. Through regional, national and European development projects it aims to increase the amount of productive activities in a sustainable and measured way.

The Women´s Centre in Talavera is involved in a number of initiatives across the region of Castilla La Mancha providing information on women´s rights and opportunities to help overcome discrimination in all aspects of their lives.
Cloud Incubator Hub (http://cincubator.com/)
Recently named in the top ten startup accelerators in Spain, the Cloud Incubator Hub is an initiative of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena. The successful incubator helps young entrepreneurs to develop their ideas into products with training and advice from the experts present at Cloud Incubator Hub and UPCT.
GIRL POWER benefits from a € 197.000 grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants. The aim of the programme is to increase the independence of women in the region of Talavera de la Reina through technological entrepreneurship.

- Webshop development
- App building courses
- Develop software and hardware solutions for IoT with Arduino

About the EEA Grants
Through the EEA Grants and Norway Grants, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway contribute to reducing social and economic disparities and to strengthening bilateral relations with the beneficiary countries in Europe. The three countries cooperate closely with the EU through the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA). For the period 2009-14, the EEA Grants and Norway Grants amount to €1.79 billion. Norway contributes around 97% of the total funding. Grants are available for NGOs, research and academic institutions, and the public and private sectors in the 12 newest EU member states, Greece, Portugal and Spain. There is broad cooperation with donor state entities, and activities may be implemented until 2016. Key areas of support are environmental protection and climate change, research and scholarships, civil society, health and children, gender equality, justice and cultural heritage.
